It is a song of beauty and light and life.

The Aakash Odedra Company returns to the Main Stage after a sold-out performance of Songs of the Bulbul, the captivating dance work inspired by the Sufi myth of a caged songbird.

The work tells the story of a bulbul bird trapped in captivity, deepening its despair as its final moments approach. Yet as its end draws near, it delivers one last heartbreaking song. This tale of sacrifice and beauty explores freedom found only in the ultimate release.

Featuring choreography by Rani Khanam and music by Rushil Ranjan, this exquisite performance blends Kathak dance, orchestral and Indian classical traditions, and Islamic poetry.

Tracing a journey from freedom to captivity and the soul’s longing for divine love, Songs of the Bulbul explores whether we, like the caged bird, remain bound to the material world or soar towards liberation and enlightenment.
