News Story

This year, Oxford Playhouse celebrates Pride Month with a special scratch night performance of queer new writing at its Burton Taylor Studio.
Applications for Queer Scratch Night are open now - The Playhouse team is looking for short pieces of new queer writing being developed by LGBTQ+ artists, particularly from those based in Oxfordshire. Each artist will have a slot of up to 15 minutes to test out their new work in front of an audience in a 50-seater studio setting.
This showcase, which will take place on Friday 26 June, is a supportive space to share stories, receive constructive feedback, and connect with queer artists from across the region and beyond.
Scratch night performances can include anything from the beginnings of a scene or an experimental section of a piece. The Playhouse aims to create a varied and diverse programme, in both form and content.
Submissions will be assessed creatively, with places offered to work that would benefit most from this opportunity. Each team will receive a contribution from The Playhouse of £200 to support their work and expenses.
The deadline for applications has been extended to Monday 20 April, with artists selected on Friday 1 May.
Full details of the application process can be found in the Application Pack below, including information on how The Playhouse will support each applicant throughout the process.
