Jennifer Jackson (she/her) is researching an idea for a new physical theatre/dance show about gender and how womxn take up space - with the working title WRESTLELADSWRESTLE. Based on Jennifer’s experiences of learning Judo as a teenager, her love of Pro-Wrestling, and her mother’s relationship to the UK, she is exploring how womxn ‘Take Up Space.’ She wants to look at the ways that womxn use their bodies.
As part of her research, Jennifer is currently looking to create an online gang of womxn. She is looking for anyone who identifies as female - trans, cis and non-binary fem(me), any age, any physical ability, from a wide as possible range of backgrounds- to join her in a series of workshops to explore how we use our bodies and what it means to ‘Take Up Space’. Her hope is to create a UK Wide group- a virtual ‘Girl Gang’. The use of space is political. To demand space and visibility is political. TAKE UP SPACE is permission, an instruction, an order.
You don’t need any experience to come and play. Jennifer has worked with a range of people, including children, young people, disabled and pre- disabled performers and participants of all ages and backgrounds. Just bring you. Jennifer wants to spend some time playing, some time talking and some time giving you this toolkit to play with. We are flexible as we are living in difficult times and she wants us to find a space to be together and find something new for ourselves.
