A Theatre Near You with Stephen Fry, Marcus Brigstocke and Friends.

Wed 8 Jul at 8pm

A live response to theatre without live performance.

Presented by Oxford Playhouse, Jericho Comedy and Macrocosmic in aid of the Playhouse Plays On Appeal.

The Covid-19 crisis has affected every aspect of our lives, but for the thousands of artists, creatives, producers, technicians and venue staff who work in the performing arts, this closure could mark the end of their careers in the cultural sector. Theatre, comedy, music and even panto are all under threat (oh yes they are!).

Following the announcement that ‘theatres can open on the 4 July, but without live performances’, all of us at the Playhouse got a bit cross. Then Jericho Comedy Club asked if we wanted to livestream a comedy gig with no audience to demonstrate how hard the government have made it for theatres to open without live audiences. This exciting, one-off, unique hour celebrating the range and diversity of talent with a pulse, presented at the Playhouse, is introduced by Marcus Brigstocke, includes Stephen Fry and friends, and is directed by Simon Evans (Staged, BBC1).

The line-up includes the hilarious Lucy Porter and Rachel Parris (The Mash Report, BBC2), Playhouse Panto Favourites Ricky Oakley and Paul Biggin; Natalie Paris as Jane Seymour from SIX The Musical and OP Evolve artist and Freelance Taskforce member Amantha Edmead with an extract from her award-winning solo show SOLD. Further artists to be announced.

Tickets, priced at £25 per device, are limited to 632, a full house at Oxford Playhouse, and are available online until 7.30pm on Wednesday 8 July. Links to the livestream will be emailed to all bookers on Wednesday 8 July from 5pm.

Please be in your (own!) seats by 7.55pm.
