When a sardonic former sit-com star appears on a talk show to promote her latest project, a film about her childhood on set, the audience isn’t expecting more than live access to behind-the-scenes gossip. Unknown to her, the talk show host has access to secrets that will cause this evening, and her own future, to unravel in ways far outside her expectations.
Please Clap is a new play written and directed by George Rushton, exploring themes of individual authenticity and the nature of modern celebrity. At times surreal, it’s a conceptual piece with a current of dark humour running through, pivoting on the boundaries of the illusion in theatre and in normal life.
