We are all married, bound by a contract. But what are the terms of this relationship and can we talk about divorce?

Gecko’s latest creation is inspired by the complexities of human nature; the struggle between love and anger, creation and destruction, community and isolation. In a blur of wedding dresses and contractual obligations, an extraordinary ensemble of international performers guides audiences through a dystopian world in which we are all brides, wedded to society.

Combining movement, imagery and provocative narratives into Gecko’s trademark style, The Wedding brings these contracts into question with an emotionally charged and spectacular performance.

We want to believe in our journey but where are we heading? Is it too late to stop, to go back, to fall in love, to start again?

Post- Show Talk Friday 2nd: Gecko will host a panel discussion exploring two key themes from the show – integration and social cohesion, and affecting change in the community.  The panel will include:

Gecko Artistic Director: Amit Lahav
Henry Owen - Co-Chair of the Transition Network Board, a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world, and an active member of Oxfordshire Community Action Group
Anja Meinhardt: local artist and Artistic Director of Justice in Motion (an Oxford based theatre company exploring issues of human rights and social justice) who is working with Gecko on Physical theatre workshops for young people from a local and migrant or refugee background.

Blood Wedding is Federico García Lorca’s dramatic exploration of the passions that turn rational creatures into irrational ones – humans into animals.  In arid, rural isolation, the fate of two families is ravaged by murder and marriage. Written in the political turmoil of the build up to the Spanish Civil War, Blood Wedding portrays characters driven solely by blood, lust and a thirst...

    Wed 21 - Sat 24 Feb

I’m a very sick girl. Apparently. These impulses come over me and I just can’t help it. Hedda returns from her honeymoon to an empty marriage, an unfulfilling existence and a pregnancy she doesn’t want. Driven by an unthinking desire for power, she manipulates those around her to devastating effect. In this bold contemporary version of Henrik Ibsen’s original, Critics’ Circle Award-win...
