At the forefront of Oxford Playhouse’s year-long celebration marking 100 years since women won the vote comes On the March: a powerful new drama created by our 17|25 Young Company.

A moving and insightful look at the battles for women’s rights that have punctuated the last century, On the March is written by award-winning playwright Clare Bayley, a 2015 writer-on-attachment with Playhouse Playmaker.

Deftly weaving together women’s stories from throughout the last century, it invites you to explore our collective political history. Prepare to meet some inspiring and diverse characters, tied together through the experience of protest and progress.

Directed by Jo Noble, On the March will be performed in promenade style in the Oxford Town Hall. As historic surroundings meet a vibrant young company of actors, we cast one eye back on the past and keep another fixed firmly on the march to the future.

Part of the  season

  • A measure of how well this slick production, faultlessly directed by Jo Noble, worked, was that, after a few short moments, I forgot I was watching an amateur youth production at all. The acting was polished, the set imaginative and the ensemble pieces beautifully choreographed.

Written in the political turmoil of the build up to the Spanish Civil War, Blood Wedding portrays characters driven solely by blood, lust and a thirst...

  • Hedda

    Wed 21 - Sat 24 Feb

I’m a very sick girl. Apparently. These impulses come over me and I just can’t help it. Hedda returns from her honeymoon to an empty marriage, an unfulfilling existence and a pregnancy she doesn’t want. Driven by an unthinking desire for power, she manipulates those around her to devastating effect. In this bold contemporary version of Henrik Ibsen’s original, Critics’ Circle Award-win...
