From co-founding the Liberal Democrats, to advising Gordon Brown on nuclear proliferation, to being the Lib Dem’s Leader in the House of Lords. When she was a child, Shirley Williams believed that being an MP would give her the power to bring about all kinds of good things for society. She has now retired from the House of Lords after 50 years in front-line politics making sure that some good things were indeed bought about.
