Holiday Workshops

Holiday Workshops

Each half term Oxford Playhouse runs workshops for children aged 8 to 11 years on a theme that links to the current or a recent main stage show. Participants enjoy exploring different theatre disciplines; musical theatre, physical theatre, storytelling, puppetry and much much more, while learning how to create and stage their own performances for family and friends at the end of their workshop.

Every summer we invite children aged 8 to 11 years to join us for the week to create their version of an Oxford Playhouse production. Your children will devise their own script and incorporate song and dance to portray their story. When we are able to use the BT Studio for our play-in-a –week workshops the shows will make full use of the professional lighting equipment for their performance to family and friends at the end of the week.

Each summer we are proud to have Mark Curtis (Small Nose Theatre) deliver a week long Clowning course for young people aged 11 to 16 years. Participants will learn the fun and demanding art of Clown and Improvisation as they discover what being funny means, why it’s important to fail and what type of clown they are.

Current Holiday Workshops...

Fairy Tales - Monday 12th February - We all love a good story, and if your child enjoys creating and telling imaginative tales then they’ll love this magical day.

Your child will learn storytelling, physical theatre and puppetry techniques while exploring some of our best loved fairy tales, The Little Match Girl, Thumbelina and The Princess and the Pea. They will use their new skills to retell or create their own fairy tale.

George's Marvellous Medicine Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th April - For a few brief moments he had touched with the very tips of his fingers the edge of a magical world.

Join us for two marvellous days of fun and folly, as you explore the wondrous world of storyteller Roald Dahl.  From his exciting characters to his playful language, you’ll delve into the world of George’s Marvellous Medicine to create your own short performance for family and friends inspired by Dahl’s work.

The Playhouse offers free and discounted places for anyone that wants to take part but may need help with fees. Email learning@oxfordplayhouse.com for more information.  Once booked workshops are non-refundable.
