Primary Schools

Oxford Playhouse offers a range of workshops to support curriculum teaching and visits to our theatre. Ranging in suitability from Year 1 to Year 6, our menu of activities below is designed to bring drama and creativity alive in your classroom. For more information or to discuss new ideas for your students, please get in touch: learning@oxfordplayhouse.com.

PRIMARY PLAYMAKER
An in-school series of workshops for KS2, Primary Playmaker is designed to improve literacy, develop storytelling skills and encourage children's imaginations. This is a unique opportunity for pupils to learn how to conceive and write their own short play and understand the development process which leads to a professional production. A selection of plays that have been written by pupils will be performed on the Oxford Playhouse main stage by professional actors as part of our Young Players' Festival. For more information, visit our Primary Playmaker page HERE.

Suitable for: Key Stage 2

PLAY IN A DAY
A one-day in-school project, Play in a Day looks to bring your curriculum alive by creating a unique performance tailored to a topic being studied by your pupils in the classroom. Building on the knowledge already acquired by pupils in their lessons, this fun and creative opportunity seeks to put pupils firmly in the driving seat as they devise their own short play, which can be later performed to parents and peers.

Suitable for: Key Stage 2

SHAKESPEARE: MERE PLAYERS
A practical introduction to the world of William Shakespeare, we will help bring your text of choice to life through a bespoke workshop exploring characters, themes and settings. Whether it be the magical storm of The Tempest, or the battling rivalries of Romeo & Juliet, each workshop seeks to celebrate the tradition of Shakespeare's work and reinforce its relevance in modern day literature through fun and creative games and exercises.

Suitable for: Key Stage 2

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
Oxford Playhouse aspires to create long-lasting relationships with schools across the region, delivering bespoke workshops that not only inspire pupils to be confident with their creativity, but that also fit int the curriculum and schemes of work planned by teachers. If you have a topic - be it Ancient Greece, wartime poetry or even the Easter Story - that you would like to be brought to life through drama, we can work with you to design the perfect session plan to be delivered by one of our resident practitioners.

Suitable for: Age 6+

SHOW WORKSHOPS & TOURS
Visiting Oxford Playhouse to watch a performance? We can deliver practical workshops for your pupils - either pre- or post-performance - that will introduce them to the world of the play. Often there are also opportunities for groups to take a tour of the theatre, including the chance to stand on our stage and explore every detail of our auditorium.

Suitable for: Age 8+
