The Burton Taylor Studio, beside the Playhouse, regularly houses some of the most innovative theatre to be found in Oxford. I often think of it as our own miniature version of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that if it is on at the Burton Taylor then it is well worth seeing
Daily Info 2007

Burton Taylor Studio is a small 50-seater studio theatre situated at the top of two flights of stairs, just around the corner from Oxford Playhouse. During each eight-week University term, it plays host to a wide variety of student productions, from new writing or rarely performed pieces to experimental new angles on old classics. Out of term it is host to professional touring companies or local small-scale community theatre groups who stage various pieces, often newly written, offering an interesting contrast to the larger scale shows at it’s parent organisation, Oxford Playhouse. You are more likely to see monologues or two-handers here, than epic musicals with casts of thousands!!!

The intimate atmosphere is appreciated by audience & performers alike, and, with some of the most up-to-date and technologically advanced equipment at their disposal, a high standard is enabled whether the company is made up of fresh enthusiastic students taking their first steps in the world of theatre, or seasoned professionals, experimenting in a microcosm of their usual environment.

A selection of refreshments is available on the premises and we utilise our air-conditioning in the studio in order to create a comfortable surrounding for our audiences. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Professional Work

Outside of term time, Oxford Playhouse presents a dedicated programme of professional work from the best small scale touring companies. Offering up treats from the comedy circuit, brand new writing, dance, family shows, music and classical drama. The Burton Taylor Studio aims to have something for everyone.

Summer Activities

Holiday workshops take place in the Studio during July and August. Please visit here for further information
