Candoco Dance Company
Challenging the perception of what dance is and who can dance, Candoco is a company of disabled and non-disabled dancers. Celebrating its 20th year, the company makes its much anticipated return to the Playhouse with an anniversary triple-bill from acclaimed choreographers Javier de Frutos, Wendy Houstoun and Trisha Brown.
The evening begins with a world premiere by Evening Standard Theatre Award-winner Javier de Frutos inspired by the poetry of Tennessee Williams. Dance theatre artist Wendy Houstoun combines movement, text and elaborate costumes in a light-hearted performance loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The bill is completed with a restaging of contemporary dance pioneer Trisha Brown’s joyful signature piece Set and Reset/Reset.
A real pleasure to watch. Guardian
OPINION
Candoco has put together this triple-bill especially for Oxford. Set and Reset by Trisha Brown is one of my favourite ever pieces of dance, and it will be a real treat to see it here. Wendy Houstoun’s piece is completely different and great fun, and the promise of a world premiere from Javier de Frutos completes what should be a memorable evening.
